In 1699 the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh, chose Vaisakhi as the occasion to transform the Sikhs into a family of soldier saints, known as the Khalsa Panth. This marked the birth of Gatka, the vibrant traditional martial art form of the Sikhs.
Project Pingalwara is being led by Amerjit Singh Walia, Senior Gatka Instructor with Baba Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara based in SGSS Hounslow. Our mission is simple – to get our communities involved in charity work, fundraising, and enjoy the fruits of sharing and giving.

Weaponry is an important part of Gatka as it is a weapon-based performance art created by the Sikhs of the Punjab during the British Empire.
Women Warriors: Sikh religion regards men and women to be partners and equals. So it is no surprise that when called upon in times of danger, Sikh women took up arms to fight alongside their men and many have gained glory.
Gatka Warriors: Guru Angad Dev, encouraged followers to train the body physically, mentally and spiritually. Guru Hargobind propagated the theory of the warrior saint and emphasized the need for his followers to practice fighting for self-defence.
